Taber Merchant Scholarship and Tuition Assistance Fund

In 2011, our vibrant 11-year-old student, Taber Merchant, passed away unexpectedly, inspiring the creation of the Taber Merchant Scholarship and Tuition Assistance Fund. This fund reflects Taber’s love, creativity, and passion for the arts, and it helps families in need pursue their dreams of dance and performance.

GMPA is a Vermont-based non-profit performing arts studio located in Waterbury, VT.  We provide year-round programming in dance instruction, performance groups, arts-based after-school care, and summer camps for ages 3–18 (and even adults). As a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational organization, our mission is to enhance community cultural vitality through exceptional dance, theatre, and music education in a supportive, creative environment.

Today, GMPA is proud to serve 190 students, including five families receiving assistance during the current fiscal year.

Current Funds Available for 2025-2026 Year: $11,709

  • Scholarship applications are reviewed monthly by the GMPA Board of Directors Scholarship Committee.
  • The Scholarship Committee makes a recommendation to the full Board of Directors for final approval.
  • Scholarships are applied to tuition fees. Families are responsible for any costume, performance fees or Summer programming.
  • Families in need of assistance for dancewear and dance shoes should apply for assistance from the new Dancewear Fund.
